エルヴェとエレンは、フランスのラビルズュでしあわせに暮らしていた。エルヴェは、蚕の買い付けのため、フランスから日本へ。そこで原ケイに出会い、彼の妻のことが、忘れられなくなる。妻のエレンは、夫が日本へ行くたびに、だんだんと離れていくのを感じている。そこへ日本から一通の手紙が−。
